Reverend Tim McCoy appointed Executive Minister of Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec March 26, 2010 With joy and thanksgiving we announce to our CBOQ family the appointment of Reverend Tim McCoy as the Executive Minister of Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec, effective April 1, 2010. Rev. Ted Searle, President of CBOQ, believes that, "Tim brings to this position outstanding leadership capabilities and proven experience in working together with leaders and churches in responding to the challenges of Christian witness in this age. His visionary leadership as Director of our Convention's vital youth ministry uniquely positions him to bring the next generation of leaders along with him in this new role. I believe he is the person God has called to lead our Convention into this next decade." Tim McCoy has over 19 years experience in pastoral ministry and other positions of leadership in Christian organizations and the charitable sector. In these roles he has demonstrated an exceptional capacity to engage, inspire and lead people as a pastor, ministry leader, team builder and as a faithful, passionate disciple. He is a gifted communicator who relates well to people and draws them in. He has the ability to envision beyond the present, to articulate vision and lead strategically to achieve results. Tim shares his enthusiasm for our family of churches stating, "Our Convention finds itself in an exciting time and place in the story of God. We have many new and seasoned leaders who are living out their own missional story in their regional context. CBOQ's mandate is to journey with churches, leaders and sister organizations to both learn from one another and to encourage one another. I am excited about working with our staff team here at the Convention offices and working with our Board and church leaders to see CBOQ have greater Christian impact in our own communities, in our country and around the world." Most recently, Tim has served for four years as the Director of Youth Ministries for CBOQ. Under his leadership, vision for youth has been developed and CBOQ's youth ministry has grown in exciting ways. Tim has also contributed effectively through leadership roles at the national and international level, including work with Canadian Baptist Ministries, Baptist World Alliance and the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada. As Director of Youth Ministries, Tim has connected widely with many churches and leaders. He has contributed to the shaping and implementation of our Convention's vision of transforming leaders, churches and communities. Prior to joining CBOQ, Tim served for 12 years in a Baptist church in Charlotte, North Carolina, leading and growing a large, dynamic youth ministry. Tim has served as a networker and consultant for the Carolina Youth Commission, working to establish a large network of youth pastors to initiate outreach in communities. He has worked as Director of Volunteer Resources for the American Red Cross, managing recruitment and training of 1400 volunteers and providing leadership in volunteer recognition and establishing corporate teams. Tim holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion and Communications from Mars Hill College and a Masters degree in Christian Education, Structural Leadership and Organizational Change from Pfeiffer University. He succeeds Rev. Dr. Ken Bellous, who retired in June 2009. Tim will be working with current Interim Executive Minister, Rev. John Torrance, through a 15 day transitional period. Tim's appointment will be submitted for ratification by the CBOQ Assembly at its annual meeting June 10-12, 2010. For further information, please check out our website at www.baptist.ca.
